Obituary for Peter P. Kintzer

SUTTON: Dr. Peter P. Kintzer DVM, DACVIM of Sutton, Massachusetts died tragically on March 2nd, 2017, at the age of 55.

He is survived by his loving wife Katey Burrows Kintzer, his son Zygmont Lowell and wife Dominique Lisette Kintzer, his daughter Zoe Elizabeth Kintzer and her partner Michael Matthew Trosin Jr., his two brothers George and wife Elizabeth Kinzter of Madison,Wisconsin, David and wife Gail Kintzer of Wilmington, North Carolina, and many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and assorted family pets. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Edythe Kintzer, and his aunt Elsie Kintzer.

Peter Kintzer was born on March 8th, 1961 in Brooklyn, NY. He met the love of his life, Katey, while studying at Cornell University. In their 30 year marriage, they raised two beautiful children in their home of Sutton, Massachusetts.

After graduating from Stuyvesant high school in 1978, he studied Animal Science at Iowa State University and continued his education at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine where he received his doctorate degree.

In his professional life, Peter completed an internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, a residency in small animal internal medicine at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, and 5 years on staff at Tufts followed by nearly 15 years as an internist at specialty referral practices in New England. Most recently, he worked as a Field Medical Specialist for IDEXX Laboratories and as a member of the Pet Health Network medical review board. In his daily life, he continued to practice internal medicine in New England and performed ultrasounds for Veterinary Internal Medicine Mobile Specialists at local clinics. Dr. Kintzer was a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and lectured globally on small animal internal medicine and endocrine disorders; topics he has authored numerous articles and book chapters in.

Peter was a humble, brilliant, and loving man who spent his free time at their cottage in Wellfleet, MA with his Newfoundland, Lucy. His passion for his family, traveling, and cooking were matched only with his vibrant sense of humor and playful pranks that kept all around him laughing. If he wasn’t at the beach or caring for an animal, you could always find him at home gardening or golfing with his wife. The family would like to thank everyone in the community for the outpouring of love and support during this tragic time.

On Friday, the countless communities that were impacted by Peter's life will come together to pay their respects to a life well lived. Calling hours for any and all who want to attend (visitation with the family-no casket, funeral or burial) will be held on Friday, March 10th from 3:00-7:00 PM at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St, North Grafton, MA 01536.
