Your daughter's story is being shared on College Confidential, a place where hundreds if not thousands of super-talented, stressed-out kids congregate. I do believe that giftednesss itself can be a risk factor. Parents receive constant praise in the early years about the gifted child but the truth is, the things that lead to this designation - rumination, perfectionism - can turn on you easily. I myself might have been in this category. If you ask yourself, why didn't she tell us, why did she hide it? I can say, looking at her diary, that it is just such a distortion of reality in your mind that feels like the most clarity you have ever had in your life. You believe the lies of depression so completely that it would not lead you to seek help, because it feels like unassailable fact. I'm so sorry!

I am so sorry for your loss. My wife and I watched CBS Sunday Morning today. This afternoon we watched it again with our eleven and thirteen year old girls. We all talked about it for thirty minutes after. The ukulele struck home as our older has been playing. Thank you for sharing your grief. I think I understand why you did it so publicly and my wife and I are grateful.

I would like to commemorate the glowing light of Alexandra Valoras' life on Earth, her unique and vital efforts, her place within a loving family, on her birthday. I learned of Alexandra's story shortly after CBS News had it told to the nation. I was deeply affected, and moved to tears. May those who knew her, and loved her deeply, cherish the memories, cherish her smiles, her presence among them as it was, and feel thanks that those moments happened at all, and live for the moments to come like them in Alexandra's memory...

From your words, Alexandra sounds like a beautiful person, I did not have the privilege of knowing her. I am so sorry for your tragic loss. I am sorry for the pain in your hearts. As someone who has struggled with depression I know just how deep that darkness can be. I know right now the pain you feel is great and it can neither be explained nor removed by words. It is my hope that you find some comfort in the promise of the resurrection found in the scriptures. “There is going to be a resurrection.” (Acts 24:15) Those who have fallen asleep in death will be restored to life. They will not face the same pressures or anxieties that we face today, they will not be overcome by depression. “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) God will bring mankind everlasting comfort by destroying sickness, pain, and death. Very soon tears of sorrow will be replaced with tears of joy. May this hope help you to cope with the pain you feel, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

Dear Alysia, Dean and Family, our hearts our heavy with heartbreak with you. We are so sorry for the loss of your beautiful, amazing daughter. Our deepest sympathy and prayers surround you. We met Alexandra and you at the BVT shop information night. My son is a freshman and he was very inspired and impressed with Alexandra and the projects she was working on. She took the time to answer our questions and her brilliance and enthusiastic spirit was evident. Alysia, you took the time to help us understand the great path the program leads to and the wonderful things your daughter was able to achieve, and her brilliant gifts she brought to the program. We were very grateful for meeting you both that night. Never underestimate just how much Alexandra was able to touch a life and make such an impression. We pray for your healing. We applaud your bravery and honesty to share Alexandra's pain and this too common health dilemma among our teens and young people. We hope unmeasurable good and new strides will come from Alexandra's story and other young people will be saved because of her. You raised a beautiful young woman with an infectious spirit and we know she will always be by your side, watching and reminding you she is there.

To the family and friends of Alexandra Valoras. I can't imagine the pain and sorrow you must feel losing a beautiful precious life. ....but our heavenly Father Jehovah does. It tells us at Psalms 34:18 " Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted. He saves those who are crushed in spirit. It saddened him when we shed tears of sorrow. Through his Words he gives us comfort and hope. The hope of seeing our dear loved ones again who have fallen asleep in death. As God's words promise at Isaiah 26:19 "Your dead ones will live. ..They will rise up.". When Jesus was on earth Matthew 10:8 says he "Cure the sick, raise up the dead showing what he will do in the near future for our love ones. Why. My mind won’t let me stop wondering. As if knowing will bring some understanding to an act too tragic to process. It all seems very surreal. But then the grief hits. And since Monday, this is the cycle - disbelief and overwhelming sadness. I can’t imagine how this this must be for all of you - Dean, Alysia, Emily, and Nicholas. My heart breaks... Emily and I have known Alexandra since elementary school. The first things we came to know about her were her academic excellence and her amazing skills artistically. But as Emily’s and Alexandra’s friendship grew closer we got to know her giggle, her innocence, her kindness, her compassion, and her willingness not only to try new things, but her stubborn will to master them. She was an amazing girl. It was just a few short years ago we took Alexandra on a family vacation with us. Within a week she had seamlessly become a member of our family. She was so comfortable swimming with an aunt along the shoreline, boating with all the cousins, and playing mini golf with all the many of us. She didn’t miss any of our traditions. But I will never forget taking Alexandra water skiing. Your girl with her long lanky legs trying to keep those bobbing skis straight with that look of determination on her face. It had been several tries and she was shivering more each time as she got colder. We tried to get her back in the boat - but she wasn’t having it. “One more try” she kept saying. Her moment came - she was vertical - for maybe a full minute - and boy were her blue lips smiling! After that, she finally agreed to get out of the water. I was in awe. I have been going up to the lake every year since I was a kid myself and never had a vertical minute. Her perseverance was inspiring. Every family member in that boat was cheering. They had been cheering her on since she had gotten in the water. She had made such an impression on all of us. ... And when we started up the craft table, Alexandra was in her element. She could take smooth stones from the lake and easily transform them into painted birds and frogs. We found everyone was trying to imitate her beautiful projects. She was so creative and talented. My Emily will never forget that week in NH, their school days together, sleepovers, and birthday parties. She recently pulled a Christmas card Alexandra had made out of her memory box. It now sits on her nightstand. We remember too seeing your whole family at different events. The closeness and caring was visible and I never failed to notice it. Emily and Nicholas it was clear looked up to their big sister and the affection was clearly returned as we remember Alexandra would often say how proud she was of them. There was so much love... Your precious girl will never be forgotten. She touched and inspired so many of us. She will be missed beyond measure. We may never know the pain that caused this to happen but we will be forever grateful that we were blessed with Alexandra’s presence in our lives. Our deepest condolences and love to you Dean, Alysia, Emily, and Nicholas. I hope you can feel the warm embrace of the many many of us whose hearts are aching along with yours. May God give you the continued strength to get through one day at a time until your anguish in time can begin to heal. One of Alexandra’s many legacy’s will be a greater awareness on my part, and no doubt many others, of the behaviors and moods of those around me - especially teens. With this awareness, I am sure others will be helped. At this time of unimaginable grief how glad I am that you reminded us all.

Dear Family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I do not know any of you, but I know depression. We need change and it is not gun laws that is the answer as it is much more likely a person who suffers from a mental illness take their own. We need education, we need acceptance from both the sufferer and the ones who suffer from them. A depressed person can only truly understand depression. Yet when they get to the point and think about death, the words that people say like “you are so smart”, “pretty/handsome”, “you have so much to live for”, “know who you will be hurting when you are gone’. Death seems suddenly appealing. Death seems to be the solution, to free everyone around the burden they feel they have become. The person who is invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level where killing themselves somehow feels the same way a person who is trapped in a fire will eventually jump from a 2nd, 3rd-floor window. But the person who jumps from the burning building, their panic is real but they jump because they feel there no other option. This is much like the panic a person feels who want to “check out” their terror is as real as the flames by the fire that makes the person leap. When the person that is depressed feels the heat from the flames and get close enough, taking their life becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not fear of the fall, it’s the terror of the flames. Yet the people standing on the sidewalk yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’ can’t truly understand why they would jump when they can hear the sires in the background. You have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling.

My most sincere condolences go out to all of you-- Emily, Nick, Alysia and Dean. I had the honor of being both Alexandra and Emily's teacher in middle school and I am absolutely heartbroken by this news. I have been struggling to comprehend and process this news, so I cannot even begin to imagine the emotions that you are all feeling. Alexandra was one of the brightest, most caring, diligent and lovely students I've known in my career. I selfishly would seat her next to my desk so she and I could exchange knowing glances or secret giggles during class. She was wildly mature and wise beyond her years. The work she created was nothing less than exceptional and I know she was revered by her classmates and will continue to be for years to come. Her obituary not only honored her to the level she deserved but also has brought people together in ways that I believe you hoped for. It was such a beautifully written tribute to such a beautiful soul. Alexandra will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, including mine. I urge anyone who reads the Valoras' message to take it to heart, to reach out a helping hand to those who need it most. I also urge educators to enact positive change in schools and help educate others to recognize warning signs of those in crisis. With the help of your message, Alexandra's legacy will do great things, as she was surely meant to do. I trust and pray that Alexandra is at peace and that she will watch over all of you and celebrate your lives from the comfort of God's loving arms.

Alex is one of the most amazing, hilarious, quirky, fantastic, caring and loving people I have had the pleasure of calling a friend. She always new how to put a smile on my face and help me through the difficult classes we shared (which of course she could navigate through like they were nothing). We would bond over different gluten free foods at lunch where she would get annoyed (as annoyed as Alex can get, which isn’t a lot) at how many times I praised her for supporting her family and becoming gluten free. We would gossip about all of the latest occurrences with Dan Smith, the lead singer of bastille, AKA one of the only non-metal bands I ever heard her talk about. We would also party it up at all of my gatherings and parties, school dances, and other school and non-school events, gracing people with our terrible dance moves. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the people she left behind especially her mom, dad, sister, and brother and I hope that for anyone reading this they can see the light she put in my life and the everlasting memories that she helped me and many others make. I will always miss you and remember you as the amazing cat loving person I met and grew to know for the past 3 years.

Alex was one of the most intelligent, hardworking, brave, happiest people I have ever met. The world is that much little duller since she has past. She would never pass you in the hallway without saying hello and smiling that oh so infectious smile. She will be greatly missed and forever remember in the hearts. It is so tragic that no one saw the signs. She was always taking about how she adored her family, particually Emily. All she ever told me was how proud she was of her and how she had the best times with her. Alex will be watching down and protecting on her, nick, her entire family, and friends. Never will i meet someone with a greater thirst for leaning and adventure. You will be missed alex. Hope there is metal music and cats in heaven <3

Alex was one of the best friends you could ask for. She was always there with advice, a stupid joke, or something new she’d learned. She was always there sitting next to me at lunch, making faces at me across class, and walking with me down the hall. I see her in everything I do, and that’s because she had such an effect on everyone she encountered. Alex is one of the most intelligent, spectacular people I’ve even met, if not the most. I love her and I miss her with my whole being. Seeing the flowers on the overpass broke my heart, but at the same time I was happy for her to see how much we love her and miss her. Allex and her family are in my thoughts and my heart.

Alex and I were school friends because we were in similar classes and every time I saw her I instantly smiled. She gave off such happiness that effected everyone around her. When the teachers read the news to the students everyone was in shock, all of our smiles that she placed on her faces immediately left. Whether you were good friends with Alex or only have seen her in the hallway, she impacted your life. My heart goes out to her family and close friends I hope you find happiness again. Rest peacefully Alex we miss you

my heart is broken for you and your family. My family experienced the loss of our beautiful Benjamin to suicide at 18 years old in 2009 in the town a few doors over from yours. To too many kids today are suffering inside and struggling with depression anxiety and the internal beliefs that they're just not good enough. if there is any way that I can support you personally that our organization can support you and your family please do not even hesitate to reach out when you are ready. I am deeply heartbroken by her loss of life. She was an amazing person through and through. I will always remember the jokes she used to make with me about Evanescence. She would always bring a smile to my face and I loved talking to her. She will always be a friend to me.

I am so saddened by the loss of Alexandra. My heart goes out to her entire family, and to her friends, who are struggling to understand how such an ambitious and talented young woman could have felt like there was no other way out of her secret sorrows. I was her bus driver. I am also the mother of 3 daughters who all graduated from BVT. Alex was always smiling and talking about her school projects, and sometimes even lugged a robot or giant tool box onto the bus with her. When I heard the rumor that she had taken her life, I didn't want to believe it. They can train you for most things that you encounter as a bus driver, but nobody can prepare your heart for the call I got on Monday. Alex had so much talent and was so kind to everybody. She always said "good morning" when getting on the bus. I wish I could have known what was going on inside of her, and could have had the chance to let her know how loved she was by everybody who came into contact with her. She was a model student. I pray that she has found peace and rest at last. My prayers and sympathy are for all of those who are missing her.

Alexandra was such a kind, intelligent, and sweet person. I was fortunate enough to have her as a student my first year teaching in Grafton. She had such a warm presence, as her intelligence, humor, and amiable nature were all blessings to our classroom. She made me a card at the end of the year that was intricately folded and featured a drawing on it, taking the time to thank me for a great year. She came to visit me a number of times over the years, sharing with me her experiences in high school and desire to go into engineering. In my ten years of teaching, she is my first former student to pass away and it’s heartbreaking. I’ve seen the devastating effects of her loss firsthand on her friends and can’t even begin to imagine how her poor family must feel. The world will certainly miss out on the great gifts she was yet to bestow on us. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

We are so saddened to hear of your loss. Alexandra was a joyful, intelligent, caring and creative (I listened to her Ableton "Alexandra's Theme" musical creation when I learned of her passing) young woman. As a father of 3 children also, I let each one of them know how much they are loved as I know you and Alysia have always done with your own children. There aren't words enough to express how sorry we feel for your entire family and all those whose lives Alexandra has touched. I am sure she will always be remembered as a dear daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, friend, classmate, and robotics competitor.

I am a Junior at Blackstone Valley Tech, a classmate of Alexandra. When I heard she passed and how it happened, my mind couldn’t accept it. Alex was such a kind and sweet girl. She was nice to everyone she met. The times i talked to her were few, but yet life impacting. When I picture her, all i can see is her smiling face. I am so sorry for your loss, I can’t image what you are going through. I hope she has found peace. Alex will be greatly missed.
