Obituary for James A. Broquist

NORTH GRAFTON: James Anthony Broquist, 46, of North Grafton, MA died on Monday September 17, 2018 after a brave two-year struggle with ALS, a fatal neuro-muscular disease also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. Jimmy was born in Worcester, grew up in Shrewsbury, spent several years in New York City, and then lived for a few years in Natick before moving to his current home in North Grafton. Jimmy was the son of James D. and Constance Broquist. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School and, over the years, was employed in a variety of retail, banking, and sales capacities.
Jimmy was a devoted son, a loyal friend, and a loving husband. He enjoyed music, video games, and time spent with his life-long high school buddies. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan who collected both baseball cards and fancy watches. He was a master of trivia and strategy, so he could beat almost everybody in games like Jeopardy and chess.
Jimmy was predeceased by his father, James D. Broquist, and his aunt, Rose Marie Godino. He is survived by the love of his life, his dear wife Jennifer D. Broquist, his loving mother Constance Broquist, his father-and mother-in-law Kenn and Kathy Sinclair, his uncle and aunt, Maurice and Dolores Colonna, his brother-and sister-in-law, Marc and Lynn Sinclair, two nephews, Martin and Douglas Sinclair, a niece, Anna Sinclair, a cousin, Joi Colonna, and his beloved, devoted rescue dog, Acadia. Jimmy and Jen want to thank all of the thoughtful friends, the helpful relatives, and the wonderful, amazing ALS clinical staff at Mass General Hospital for the love, care, and support they have provided them as they have taken this very difficult two-year journey together.
In lieu of flowers, Jimmy’s family would very much appreciate donations made to the ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter, 685 Canton Street, Suite 102, Norwood, MA 02062 or online at www.webma.alsa.org or to Compassionate Care at www.ccals.org.
All are welcome to gather with Jimmy’s family and friends Saturday September 22nd from 9-10:30am at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536 followed by the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Church 640 Main St. Shrewsbury, MA 01545. He will then be laid to rest at Mountainview Cemetery in Shrewsbury. A Book of Memories to share a memory of Jimmy or message of sympathy with his family is available online at:
