He was a tremendous baseball player having been drafted by the Dodgers as a young man, but opting to join the U.S. Army instead to serve during World War II. He met his wife Bertha at the Rutland Veteran’s Hospital after the war. Charlie was made happiest by the simplest things, time with his children and grandchildren and their friends who will greatly miss their beloved “Joe Pa”. He and Bertha were active members of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury. For many years Charlie worked at Wyman Gordon in North Grafton. After his retirement he worked at Stop N Shop in Shrewsbury for many years before declining health. For many years Charlie and Bertha called Shrewsbury home where they lived for over 50 years. Charlie’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Beaumont in Worcester where Charlie was cared for like family for several years and fondly called “Poppa Charlie”. Please remember Charlie in lieu of traditional remembrances with a donation to the activities department at the Beaumont Nursing Home Plantation St Worcester. All are welcome to graveside prayers and military honors for Charlie Friday November 16th at 11:00 am at Mountainview Cemetery in Shrewsbury. There are no calling hours.
